Punjab Kings Launch IPL 2026 Preparations: Yuzvendra Chahal and Shashank Singh Lead Udaipur Camp

While most fans are waiting for the IPL schedule to be released, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) have already hit the ground running. The franchise officially kicked off its quest for a maiden title with an intensive five-day pre-season camp held in the scenic city of Udaipur from January 16 to January 20, 2026.

The camp was designed to integrate new signings with the retained core and focus on “team bonding” before the high-pressure tournament begins.

The Stars in Attendance

Leading the charge in Udaipur were two of Punjab’s most vital assets:

  1. Yuzvendra Chahal: The IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker was seen working closely with the young spinners. Chahal, who was a massive signing for PBKS at ₹18 crore, is expected to be the leader of the bowling attack this season.

  2. Shashank Singh: The breakout star of last season, Shashank, was a key figure at the camp. After recovering from a minor injury during the domestic season, Shashank used this time to regain his rhythm.

"Bonding Over Cricket": Shashank Singh’s Take

Speaking to the media after the camp concluded on January 26, Shashank Singh emphasized that the focus wasn’t just on skills, but on building a family atmosphere.

“The core focus was mostly on bonding because we met after so long,” Shashank said. “The energy was superb. We were all very positive, just like last year. The weather in Udaipur was perfect, and we got exactly what we wanted from this camp.”

Shashank, who averaged 50 last season with a strike rate of 153.5, is expected to play a senior role this year under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.

Spotlight on Emerging Talent

The PBKS management used the Udaipur camp to test their new domestic recruits. Youngsters like Priyansh Arya, Pyla Avinash, Suryansh Shedge, and Vishal Nishad were put through rigorous drills.

Shashank was particularly impressed by their growth: “There are so many young players in our team. They have become more eager and mature. It helps to share my experience with them because they keep asking questions about game situations”.

“Just like PBKS, the Gujarat Titans are also facing squad changes due to injuries.”

Building on 2025 Momentum

With 21 players retained from the previous season, Punjab Kings have opted for stability—a rare move for a franchise known for frequent changes. By adding strategic pieces like Cooper Connolly and Ben Dwarshuis in the 2026 auction, the team looks more balanced than ever.

The Udaipur camp is just the first step. The “Sher Squad” is sending a clear message: they are prepared, they are united, and they are ready to bring the “Red and Golden” vibe back to the stadium.
