Punjab Kings IPL 2026
While most fans are waiting for the schedule of the IPL to be out, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) have already hit the ground running. This franchise has officially begun chasing its first title with a rigorous five-day preseason camp from January 16 to January 20, 2026, in the beautiful city of Udaipur.
The camp was meant to integrate new signings with the retained core while focusing on “team bonding” before the high-pressure tournament begins.
The Stars in Attendance
At the forefront in Udaipur were two of the most crucial resources of Punjab:
In the same vein, Yuzvendra Chahal, the IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker was seen working closely with the young spinners. Chahal, who was a massive signing for PBKS at ₹18 crore, is expected to be the leader of the bowling attack this season.
Shashank Singh: Shashank was the big star last season and a key leader at the camp. Singh was finally declared fit for action after carrying a minor injury at the domestic level.
“Bonding Over Cricket”: Shashank Singh’s Take
Speaking to the media after the camp drew to a close on January 26, Shashank Singh stressed that the camp was aimed not only at skill-building but also at cultivating a family environment.
The core focus was mostly on bonding because we met after so long,” said Shashank. “The energy was superb. We were all very positive, just like last year. The weather in Udaipur was perfect and we got exactly what we wanted from this camp”.
With a strike rate of 153.5 and an average of 50 last season, Shashank is expected to play senior roles this year under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.
Spotlight on Emerging Talent
PBKS management used the Udaipur camp to trial their new domestic recruits. New domestic recruits like Priyansh Arya, Pyla Avinash, Suryansh Shedge, and Vishal Nishad were tested at the Udaipur camp through hard drills.
Shashank was particularly impressed by their growth: “There are so many young players in our team. There are so many young players in our team and they have raised in zeal and have grown up! It helps to pass on my experience to them as they keep asking questions regarding the game situations.
Building on 2025 Momentum
Retaining 21 players from the previous season, Punjab Kings IPL 2026 has taken the approach of stability, which is an uncommon approach for a franchise well known for making numerous changes (ibid).
With the strategic pieces of Cooper Connolly and Ben Dwarshuis in the 2026 auction, the team looks more balanced than ever.
The Udaipur camp is just the first step. The “Sher Squad”, therefore, is sending a message that they are ready, they are together, and they can create the “Red and Golden” atmosphere in the stadium again (Nagpur is likely to see this change).
