Celtics vs Nuggets: Jokic Powers Denver to Dominant 103-84 Win over Tired Boston

If you were watching the Celtics vs Nuggets game last night, you could actually see the moment the gas tank hit empty for Boston. After a grueling road trip, the Celtics finally ran out of steam in the Mile High City, dropping a tough one to the Denver Nuggets, 103-84.

A Tale of Two Very Different Halves

For the first 24 minutes, it looked like Boston might pull off the impossible—winning at altitude on the second night of a back-to-back. Derrick White was absolutely unconscious in the second quarter, putting up 18 points in front of his hometown Colorado fans. Between him and Jaylen Brown (who returned from a knee scare to drop 23), the Celtics went into the locker room with a slim 48-47 lead.

But man, that second half was a different story.

The shots just stopped falling. Boston shot a painful 28% from the field in the final two quarters. When you’re playing at 5,000 feet and your legs are heavy from a week of travel, the rim starts to look a lot smaller. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, the energy was just gone.

The Jokic Factor (Even on a “Rough” Night)

Nikola Jokic didn’t have his most efficient shooting night (going 11-of-28), but that’s the scary thing about the big man—he still dominated. He finished with 30 points and 12 rebounds, basically bullying his way through the paint whenever Denver needed a bucket to stop a Boston run.

What made Denver’s win even more impressive was that they lost Jamal Murray less than eight minutes into the game. He headed to the locker room with an illness and never came back. Usually, losing your star PG would rattle a team, but the Nuggets’ depth stepped up. Tim Hardaway Jr. chipped in 14, and the bench unit did enough to keep Boston at arm’s length.

The “Schedule Loss”

Celtics fans shouldn’t panic over this one. Finishing a West Coast trip 3-1 is a massive success. This felt like a classic “schedule loss”—the NBA gods just didn’t want them to have the legs to finish this one out.

The Nuggets, on the other hand, really needed this. They’re now neck-and-neck with Houston for that #3 seed in the West, and winning without Murray for most of the night is a huge confidence booster for their secondary players.

The Big Highlights:

Nikola Jokic (Nuggets): Scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He was the main reason Denver won.

Jaylen Brown (Celtics): Had 23 points and 11 rebounds. He played hard even though he looked tired.

Derrick White (Celtics): Scored 20 points, with 18 of them coming in just the first half.

The Turning Point: Denver went on an 11-0 scoring run at the end of the 3rd quarter, which basically ended the game for Boston.

What’s Coming Up?

Boston is finally heading back home to play the Nuggets this Friday night. The Nuggets are staying on the road to take on a tough Oklahoma City team.
